Beer distribution companies in the U.S. employ more than 345,000 people, according to recent findings by the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA). The organization’s report, America’s Beer Distributors: Fueling Jobs, Generating Economic Growth & Delivering Value to Local Communities, found the industry directly employs more than 130,000 U.S. workers.
The country’s more than 3,300 independent beer distribution companies contribute nearly $10.3 billion to federal, state and local tax bases and nearly $11 billion to consumption taxes each year. In addition, the industry adds an estimated add $54 billion to the nation’s gross domestic product, the report states.
These findings suggest beer distribution contributes immensely to the economy and therefore to other businesses. Food service in general has seen an important increase in employment recently. In December, the industry added 38,000 jobs, fueling a large portion of the country’s health employment figures for the end of 2012, according to Foodservice Equipment and Supplies magazine.
Because many industries are affected by the economic and employment conditions of food and beverage companies, business leaders will likely see changes in their market because of recent gains in foodservice.
