The holidays are right around the corner. Sales are starting, office and family parties are quickly approaching, and your wallet is preparing itself for its sudden weight loss thanks to the extra expenses you will incur over the upcoming months. With all of the gatherings, festivities and lists to check twice, the thought of being cash strapped during this time of year can be extremely overwhelming. Fear not! The holidays provide the perfect opportunity to earn some much-needed dough. ‘Tis the season to get creative to keep more money in your pocket and Fa-la-la-la-la all the way to the bank.

Tip 1: Ask for additional work

Keep it super simple and start with the job you already have! Let your employer know you are looking for additional ways to earn some extra money during the holidays and that you are willing to work overtime if there are any additional tasks that need to be done.

Tip 2: Maximize your earning potential after hours

Lots of businesses and entrepreneurs are looking for help with short- and long-term projects. TaskRabbit and Upwork are places where you can find various gigs and side projects matching your skills and expertise. Do you want to feel like you are a part of St. Nick’s workforce? Sites like these will have an assortment of jobs available from assembling gifts like toys, bikes and furniture to yard work. Additionally, ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft are other resourceful ways to quickly make money on your own time.

Tip 3: Flex those customer service muscles

Retail stores and malls are jam-packed with customers during this time of year. Retailers tend to hire more employees during the holiday shopping season to help with the influx of shoppers coming in-and-out of their stores. Seasonal retail jobs can range from greeters, guest information assistants and gift wrappers. Remember there is always a Santa who could use a few elves!

Tip 4: Help deliver presents

Holiday packages are not going to deliver themselves! UPS, FedEx and other delivery services may need additional help transporting holiday packages. If you like driving and visiting different neighborhoods, then this may be the path for you.

Tip 5: Pick up a plate

Once the calendar hits December, the holiday party season will commence in full force! Many businesses usually call upon local caterers to serve their attendees. Caterers are most likely overwhelmed during this busy month of serving hungry guests at these festive functions. Try calling a caterer from your last office party or from a loved one’s wedding to see if they need some extra assistance.

Bonus! Tip 6: Lend a helping hand

If you don’t need the extra money, but want to get out and into the holiday spirit, consider volunteering for a local non-profit organization. Numerous charitable organizations could use your support this season by preparing meals, organizing events and much more. VolunteerMatch.org is a great website to start searching for volunteer opportunities.

Sprinkle some extra holiday cheer into your wallet and bank account! Spending a few additional hours a day earning some extra income can also fund those weekly holiday parties, endless white elephant gift exchanges and that snazzy NYE outfit as well as keep your disposition merry and bright!
