The unemployment rate in Illinois, dropped from 8.7 percent to 8.6 percent between April and May, although it's still higher than the national figure of 8.2 percent, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
However, the decline marked the state's ninth monthly drop, as the number of jobless individuals in Illinois fell 1.2 percent to 546,400. The number of unemployed people has fallen 23 percent since January 2010.
Despite the dip, many business owners still don't have enough confidence to hire full-time, so they're turning to temporary workers to fill the void. In Chicago, temp work is booming.
"Most of these temp positions that we're seeing are six months in length or better, " Anne Edmunds, regional director of Manpower in Chicago, told the news source in a separate article. "It's not like it's short-term one week, a few days."
The most in-demand temp jobs for Chicago-area include manufacturing, healthcare, IT and finance. Specifically, maintenance mechanics, forklift drivers, accountant, administrative assistants, engineers, nurses and iPad and mobile app designers.
